Archives For Love

There was a lot of talk and work around the Williams house about a special golden birthday that was happening on March 2, 2014, but not a lot of buzz about the other early March birthday coming up. I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I’m a little jealous that Rooney swooped into our lives three days before my big day. And it’s been tough for me to hand over the attention the past few years.

I’d pretty much accepted it this year though, knowing that this coming weekend Kelsey and I would be getting away to Omaha for three days to reconnect at the Weekend to Remember marriage conference. (Yes, I consider this a great investment in our marriage and there’s nothing I would rather do to celebrate my 30th birthday.)

But, to my delight, Kelsey had some awesome surprises up her sleeve. On March 1, while we were in a mad dash to put the finishing touches on Rooney’s golden birthday party, Kelsey handed me an envelope starting a daily surprise leading up to my birthday on the 5th.

Day 1

Day 1 birthday surprise

hey! it’s your birth month! and we’re gonna celebrate!
for the next five days, you will receive an envelope with that day’s surprise!
day 1: tonight we are going on a date! our parents have agreed to hold down the fort while we get away after Roo goes to bed.
be thinking about what you’d like to do!

A date night! Which was an awesome surprise. But, we took a slight detour on Day 1 because Kelsey’s parents and my mom and nephew were planning on staying at our house after Rooney’s birthday party, so we decided to delay the date night until the following weekend (this past weekend). My mom was already planning on coming down, so we planned to go to a movie. We saw 12 Years a Slave. Whoa! Intense.

Thanks to my mom for babysitting while we were able to get out to a movie.

You may remember last year when Eric surprised me with a coupon book for Mother’s Day. I’ve cashed in a few of my dates already. It’s such a good gift, and I especially love pulling it out when I’m feeling like I need a little pick-me-up. (My favorite was the “Laundry Duty” coupon, and you can bet I used it on the week when all our sheets needed to be washed. :) )

Anyway, today we’re excited to bring you another giveaway from Datevitation!

Datevitation is the first website that helps you create a custom love coupon book. Unlike the prepackaged coupon books on the market, you pick the date ideas and customize the text to your liking. Once you are done customizing the text in your book, Datevitation will print it and ship it to you.

Datevitation let me make a book for Eric for Valentine’s Day! Our love languages are very different, so I made sure to choose coupons I knew he would enjoy.

Dear Eric,

Without you, who would eat the half-popped popcorn at the bottom of the bowl?
Without you, who would carry Rooney to her room every night for nigh-nigh?
Without you, who would find my lost iPhone (every single day)?
Without you, who would pull up all the hair from the shower drain?
Without you, who would get my bike down from the garage ceiling hooks?
Without you, who would teach Rooney all the great animal sounds?
Without you, who would brush Rooney’s hair for 30 minutes after her bath?

These are just seven reasons, on our seventh anniversary (on the 7th!), why you can never leave me.

xo, Kelsey

Looking back on how far we’ve come…

Freshman year at NIACC

Our first photo!

TEN YEARS AGO today, I met Eric in my parents’ driveway for our first date. We were best friends (and had already had our first kiss, but you can read more about that in our Fairytale), and we were giving dating one last shot.

He wore a 3/4 baseball shirt and jeans, a puka shell necklace (oh my do you remember those?) and had shaggy orange hair. I had blonde highlights, but we can’t remember what I was wearing.

We ate dinner at the local golf course restaurant, went back to my parents’ house for a movie (Road to Perdition), then hung out in the hot tub. That night he asked me to be his girlfriend. I said “Definitely.”

Two weeks later I was sure he was The One. I would have married him right then if he had asked.

Eric, I am so thankful that we are 10 years past that awkwardness. We have grown so much, in the same direction, at mostly the same pace (I’m keeping up with you pretty good!). I would choose you again! Love you!

Before our little love came along, we had date night on Wednesdays. Well, having a baby brings about obvious challenges to having a date night every week. We had managed to sneak away for a few hours here and there for a quick date night (usually dinner, errands, and ice cream). And we recently spent our first night away from Rooney, which was also fantastic.

But we’ve still been missing the regularity of being able to connect weekly with one another. When we are at home, it’s just too easy to sit around and unintentionally waste the nights away in our own little worlds.

In home date night

Not. Any. More. We’re starting a new kind of date night. We’re calling it “in-home date night” and it will take place on Thursdays. This is for those weeks that we can’t line up/afford a baby sitter and will allow us to have a special night albeit at home.
