Archives For Love

Before our little love came along, we had date night on Wednesdays. Well, having a baby brings about obvious challenges to having a date night every week. We had managed to sneak away for a few hours here and there for a quick date night (usually dinner, errands, and ice cream). And we recently spent our first night away from Rooney, which was also fantastic.

But we’ve still been missing the regularity of being able to connect weekly with one another. When we are at home, it’s just too easy to sit around and unintentionally waste the nights away in our own little worlds.

In home date night

Not. Any. More. We’re starting a new kind of date night. We’re calling it “in-home date night” and it will take place on Thursdays. This is for those weeks that we can’t line up/afford a baby sitter and will allow us to have a special night albeit at home.

We survived our first night away from Rooney! And it was wonderful. Here’s a little recap…

We got up at 6:00 am on Saturday, surprised to find that Roo was still sleeping. We got ready and then she woke up right before we left at 7:00, so I fed her a bottle and we said goodbye. She was so excited to see grandma, so it was an easy goodbye.

I drove us all the way down to Leawood, Kan., Starbucks in hand. We listened to Christmas music and talked a lot about the vision of this little blog (hint: we both want to keep it going, and will be revamping the About page soon!).

First stop: Madewell. I tried on clothes for an hour and Eric patiently ;) waited for me and helped me choose.

I got this dress and these pants, and will be ordering this shirt soon, because it is perfect. Also, how cute is this decorating idea? Chalk in mason jars? Yes, please.

Tomorrow night will be our first away from Rooney! Eric’s mom is coming to stay with her, and we’re sneaking away to Kansas City for a 32-hour date! (We both agree it’s time, but I think I might have a really hard time with it come Sunday morning!)

We’ll be doing what we both love — shopping and eating out! On a budget, of course. I’m most looking forward to walking through the plaza with my best friend (the weather is supposed to be great!), buying Roo some fun clothes at H&M, and sleeping in – without a baby monitor in our room!

Eric,

I am so lucky to have found you – my soul mate! – so early in my life, and that even after six years of marriage we are still madly in love. It is nothing short of amazing that we have continued to grow together along the same path, and that we don’t ever get sick of each other.

Seriously, I am so lucky. I think about it all the time.

I heard a couple weeks ago that 75% of women say they love their kids more than they love their spouse.

This made for interesting personal reflection and, later, dinner conversation with Eric.

I told him I don’t love him more than I love Rooney.
