Archives For Love

Wednesdays are our date night. This week, however, we had date night on Tuesday because our life group meeting got moved to Wednesday.

We’re a little late getting this post up…we nearly forgot about it! Yikes.

Last Tuesday night we went for a nice walk to enjoy the recent break in torrential heat.

Then we had a true Iowan summer supper: Pork chops. Watermelon. Corn on the cob. Yum.

After supper–yep, you guessed it–we watched LOST. We are on the home stretch to finishing that show. We just started season 6! Whoop!!

Oh, boy. In reviewing this CD, it’s easy to tell that we had Sonshine on the brain. We went to Sonshine Festival the first three summers we were dating. And this CD was born out of some of the great music we heard the third time we were there. We saw Sanctus Real, Seven Places, Hawk Nelson, Relient K, House of Heroes and many more awesome Christian bands.

Wednesdays are date night! Here’s what we did this week.

  • We set a specific time for our date to start. It gave us a chance to unwind from work and felt kind of like we were dating: “I’ll pick you up in the living room at 6:30 p.m.”
  • Had Chinese food delivered for $12.90
  • Watched three episodes of LOST (we’re in season five!)
  • Eric carried me to bed, knight-in-shining-armor style. My favorite!

Volume 4 brings back some memories. It’s a true culmination of all the albums we were listening to at the time of it’s inception. It must have been late spring 2004 when it was created, because we have an Offering song on the CD. Offering was Garrett’s band, and I was privileged to go with them on their first recording trip to Tulsa, Okla., in March 2004. My buddy Joe and I played an epic match of paper-rock-scissors to see who had the right to play the egg shaker on one of the songs. I lost. Sad face.

I think we made this CD after we had been dating a couple months. It’s kind of clear who picked out which songs. I will tell you that I am the master producer of these collections. I love to mix the order of the songs so that the CD flows well. Kelsey doesn’t like to do this. She would just put the songs on the CD and whatever order they were she would burn it.

Two songs on this CD hold a special place in my heart: “Sonny” by New Found Glory always reminds me of my grandma Sharon who died two months after Kelsey and I started dating. The other song is “Hear You Me” by Jimmy Eat World. Garrett and I played and sang this song at my grandma’s funeral. I wrote a post in memory of my Grandma last year.
