A Mess

Hey friends – quick update. We were in Okoboji last week, introducing Rooney to the place we fell in love and got married. She also got her first (second and third) boat ride!

We were gone for nine nights and also attended both of our 10-year high school reunions. Went on a couple dates. Ran a 5k. And went parasailing! We tried to be sneaky and scheduled posts for last week ahead of time (well, I missed on Thursday, but there was still some good stuff to read here last week).

So, this is just a short post to say…we are back from vacation. And a vacation with a 4-month-old is really not a vacation :) It was a much-needed break from our day jobs and a chance at full-time parenting. Which is great! But different than we’re used to! You understand?

Rooney is either teething or going through a growth spurt. Or both?! We’re missing sleep and are kind of a mess. Tonight I just really need a date with my husband, so we’re heading over to the couch for a little Friday Night Lights on Netflix. (We’re in season three and it is oh so good!)

Next time we’ll schedule posts for the week AFTER vacation so we can dig ourselves out of the laundry pile. This week might be a bit sparse, but maybe we’ll rally and surprise even ourselves. Have a great week!

I love my husband, my kids and the Internet.

  1. Ohh, you are so right! A vacation with a 4-month-old is not a vacation.

  2. I think I found something on Pinterest a few weeks ago that said something like:
You know you’re a mom when a trip alone to Target feels like a vacation and a family vacation feels like work!
We had so much fun seeing you guys everyday. Hope Rooney finds her new groove soon!
By the way….Mylie also cut 2 teeth while we were in ‘Boji and we see two more coming…..this teething stuff stinks!

  3. I had a hard time posting the week after out vacation and we don’t even have a kid yet! haha glad you had fun and enjoyed more continuous time with little Rooney. Take a break this week, we will all still be here next week to read bask in the wisdom you provide. :0)

  4. We took our little man on his first trip over the 4th. I need a vacation to recover from vacation! And his sleeping went from 11+hrs at night to waking 2-3 times/night right now. Working on some teeth and prob that 4mth sleep regression…
Looks like we’re on the right track!
    (Anniversary/due date/baby bday twins) :)

  5. I was just telling someone last week how a “VACATION” with a three year old and 15 month old is not vacation at all. But it is memories for them and time as a family. My husband and I will have time to sit on the beach and relax again…one day! Rooney is adorable and teething is the pits, but she’ll get them all eventually, right!?
We love Friday Night Lights and stayed up way too many nights watching “just one more” episode. We just finished up Season 5 and are now in a desperate search for something to watch.

  6. My little one did the 4 month sleep regression right at 4 months so maybe that’s what Rooney is doing? He’s 5.5 months now and is just starting to get back into his good old sleep routines.

  7. I feel you! Especially if your “vacation” includes visiting people who haven’t had little ones around in a while and are absolutely NOT baby-proofed (that probably wasn’t an issue for you this time, but in a few months!). The most interesting thing for us on our last trip was bedtime. Our nearly 2yo cannot be contained by cribs or pack-n-plays and thinks “bedtime” is code for “keeping sister from falling asleep.”
