Our Bedtime Story

“Pray. M*A*S*H. Bed.”

Three words KW and I say to each other every night when we are ready to start our bedtime routine. Yeah, OK, it’s probably a little weird, but it’s our routine and believe it or not it strengthens our marriage. Some days, this is the only time we get to talk to each other and it brings sanity to our sometimes crazy days.

Pray: You’ve probably heard the saying: “The couple that prays together, stays together.” We firmly believe in that. So, we spend each night praising God for His wonderful gifts that He has given us and give Him our burdens.

M*A*S*H: We watch 1 episode before we go to bed each night. There is just something about the show that helps us wind down. It makes us laugh. It makes us cry sometimes. There is always a moral to the story.

But it also gives a Hollywood look at the tragedy of war and how it affects people. In makes us realize how truly blessed we are to live in a free country where so many would lay down their lives to protect the freedom that we have. To all the veterans: Thank you!

If you haven’t seen the show, it is worth the watch. We rented all 11 seasons from Netflix the first go round and then decided to buy the box set. We are on our 2nd time through the entire series (currently on season 6).

Bed: After the show, it’s lights out. A couple weeks ago we were kind of late getting to bed and we decided to just go to sleep. We should have spent 1/2 hour watching an episode, because our minds were racing and we didn’t fall asleep for a few hours at least and when I did, it was a toss and turn kind of night. We vowed to never do that again!

That’s our bedtime story. What’s yours?

  1. i love our little routine. :)

  2. i like this >> a lot.

    …but MASH? who knew.
…perhaps this will end up in our Netflix queue.

    : )

  3. My husband would likely be asleep in the first 4 minutes, so I’m not sure MASH would work for us, but I dig the idea of turning off the brain before going to bed. I’m the toss-and-turn girl unfortunately!

    • I read your story on your blog. You could watch “Band of Brothers.” Although, you might have to segment it out. Have you seen the “Pacific”? I want to see it so bad!!
