Friday

Not a typical Friday evening for us, but after work we ran some errands: shopping downtown and then grocery shopping for the week. It was nice to get it out of the way!

Look at that cute pregnant belly…

Saturday

I was honored to be invited to attend the Iowa Hawkeye Homecoming game with my buddy Tommy. A nice guy from his work gave him tickets. It turned out to be an awesome day at Kinnick Stadium. We rode the Hawkeye Express into town, which was a new experience for me. A Hawkeye victory was the perfect end to an awesome experience.

This week’s scripture comes from a reader request, and I must admit, it is challenging! It got me thinking and I hope it will do the same for you.

What the Bible says about Marriage

1 Corinthians 7:36-40

36 But if a man thinks that he’s treating his fiancée improperly and will inevitably give in to his passion, let him marry her as he wishes. It is not a sin. 37 But if he has decided firmly not to marry and there is no urgency and he can control his passion, he does well not to marry.

38 So the person who marries his fiancée does well, and the person who doesn’t marry does even better.
39 A wife is bound to her husband as long as he lives. If her husband dies, she is free to marry anyone she wishes, but only if he loves the Lord.

40 But in my opinion it would be better for her to stay single, and I think I am giving you counsel from God’s Spirit when I say this.

We apologize for the long video. We wanted to be as open and thorough as posssible to give you a look into our meal planning/grocery shopping. We are NOT pros, but it works for us. And we are always looking for suggestions.

  • We typically spend around $40 on our lunch supplies for the week, but this time we spent $97.91! I’d be upset except that we actually planned out some dinners and have a lot of food in our cupboards now that will last us a while!
  • Eric ended up brining our chicken breasts using this recipe and following these cooking instructions to make grilled chicken sandwiches. They were so delicious! I like to eat mine on a garlic toast bun.

How do you think we did?

We hear you! Before you comment on how terribly unhealthy our purchases were, read the follow-up post on how nutritionally challenged we are. We’re working on it! }

Do you need to wait until you’re pregnant to start financially planning for a baby? Heck no. I would say the earlier the better. We started two-and-a-half years ago. Although we weren’t directly planning to have a baby, going through Financial Peace University was the first step in preparing to expand our family.

Obviously God has perfect timing and could have blessed us with a child at any point, but in our worldly perspective, Kels and I always said we would wait five years after being married to have kids. Remember what we celebrated two weeks ago? Sometimes God’s timing lines up with ours!

A few weeks into FPU, it was pretty evident that we had a clear direction of where we wanted to be before we started to expand our family. We for sure wanted to be debt-free except for our house (at that time we had lived in our house less than a year and weren’t considering selling it). You can read our debt-free story if you haven’t already, but here is a brief recap of the things we have done to prepare financially for the arrival of B-dub.
