Did you grow up on these in your school cafeteria? Don’t tell my mom, but I remember trading the rest of my meal with anyone who would oblige and sometimes ended up with three of these bars on my tray. I am a dessert girl, and these were my favorite!
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup margarine
- 1/2 cup Crisco
- 1 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup peanut butter
- 2 eggs
- 2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1/4 cup milk
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 3 cups quick oatmeal
Directions
- Mix together and put in greased and floured 12 x 16 pan.
- Bake at 350* for 20 minutes.
Frosting
- 3/4 cup peanut butter
- 2 1/2 tbsp margarine
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
- 4 cups powdered sugar
Mix and add enough water (we used about 1 cup) to make it to spreading consistency. Spread evenly on bars.
Thoughts
- Just as delicious as I remember!
- I think next time I might put them in a smaller pan so they are a little thicker.
- In school the bars were usually a darker color, although I believe this is the exact recipe.
- I’m not sure why they are called crunch bars, as there is really no crunch. Did we mix them too well?
- Another idea I had is to add M&Ms on top…which would taste like monster cookie bars!
Thanks to Lauren for sharing this recipe with me so I could make it for our life group! I know Chris really enjoyed them

Kelsey!! Thank you for sharing this recipe! You have no idea how many times I have thought about wanting to make these
I know! I was so excited when I got my hands on the recipe! I’m sad I lived without it for 10 years
They are soo good.
Mmm! Those look delicious!
yummm! Those look DELISH! I don’t think we had them in my cafeteria, maybe it’s a canadian thing lol
I remember those! They were so delicious. I don’t think you mixed them too much because I don’t ever remember them being crunchy at school either. Thank you so much for this recipe (were they easy to make?). I want some right now!!!
They are very easy to make, but have a lot of ingredients. However, we had most of them on-hand. I think we just needed oats and Crisco.
Thanks for the goodie plate to take home. I am enjoying them!
Yum! Gonna hafta try this one!
these look yummy! save me one
deal!
Ya know Kelsey, I had totally forgot about these, but now I really feel the need to make them. I wonder if the darker color could be achieved with the dark brown sugar (pictures look like you used light brown sugar). I may have to make these this weekend.
I did use light brown sugar, so you might be right! Good to hear from you!
Ok, those look INSANE. Might have to make them for my growth group tomorrow night!
Yea! BTW, what is a growth group?! Sounds awesome.
