Fairytale, Chapter 3: Boy's Friend Meets Girl's Friend
If you haven't read them, or need a refresher, check out chapter 1 and chapter 2. Garrett came to NIACC a few different times and he got to meet Kelsey's roommates. He started to have the same feelings that I was having. Only his feelings weren't for Kelsey, they were for her roommate. This no doubt crushed Kelsey's spirit, and Garrett was having a hard time, too, because the girl he was falling for was not interested in him (or any boy, at this point). If only a TV network could have picked up on this drama, I can guarantee that we would have been the next Laguna Beach. Garrett's feelings led to a few very nice songs about his crush, and also made his heart hurt for a while.
Kelsey: Let me just say, I'm so thankful for unanswered prayers. I was obviously hurt at the time, but God knows what He's doing! I'm married to the love of my life, and Garrett is, too.
One night when Kels and I were hanging out, she became real flirty with me and kissed me on the cheek. What? Talk about confused. I didn't know up from down at this point. And when I asked her about it, she played it off like it was no big deal and she still wasn't going to date me. Bummer. Another day she was again flirting with me, I asked her if she wanted to go get some lunch, just the two of us. I meant it as a date, but could tell that thought never crossed her mind. She was a master of hiding her true feelings for me. I knew deep down that she wanted to date me. This was the game we played. She pretended to like me. I asked her to go out with me, and she said, "I don't think so." This merry-go-round went on for what seemed like eternity. My heart was on a roller coaster and I wanted to throw up almost all the time.
Kelsey: I feel the need to defend myself just a little bit. I don't discount the fact that I gave mixed signals. I, too, had gone through a difficult breakup and my heart was pretty closed off. I knew I liked Eric as a friend, but didn't think he was "the one" and I wasn't going to date anyone until they were. I wanted to date and marry a solid Christian guy and I was still searching for that person.
(You can probably guess by the smile on my face, that this photo was taken after I won her heart.)
Come back next week for chapter 4!
