When in Omaha

photo 3 (1) Exploring a new city is so much fun! Eric and I loved our weekend stay in Omaha a couple weeks ago for the FamilyLife Weekend to Remember conference (read Eric's recap here). We had never been to Omaha besides flying out of there a couple times. When we visit a new city, we love to tentatively plan our meals before we go, and this time got a lot of great recommendations on our Facebook page, so thanks!

So here we go...the best food in Omaha according to two people who have only been there once for a very short weekend!

SCOOTER'S COFFEE & YOGURT 1123 Howard St.

Scooter's is a chain and we actually have one in Des Moines, but we've never been there. It started in Nebraska and we had heard good things, so we decided to check it out. There are a bunch of locations (several in walking distance from our hotel) and it was pretty good for our first quick breakfast in the city. I had a Peachy-Tart Blast smoothie and a blueberry muffin. Not life-changing but not terrible...how's that for a review?

TRINI'S MEXICAN RESTAURANT 1020 Howard St.

We ate here for lunch on Saturday and it ended up being our favorite meal all weekend. I HIGHLY recommend the "puffy beef" taco, which has a deep fried shell. YUM. I told Eric I would drive the hour and a half back there anytime he wanted just for tacos. The queso left something to be desired, though. Next time I will be ordering the guac! The prices are very reasonable and there are some cute shops located nearby.

M'S PUB 422 South 11th St.

Eric got us reservations at M's Pub for Saturday night. M's was probably the most-recommended restaurant so we were really looking forward to it. It's a fairly small place and a fairly small menu as well. Less kid friendly than Trini's for sure but the prices are decent. I had the hamburger (yummy) and Eric had the lamb burger (just OK). I think we were both pretty underwhelmed with the atmosphere after all the recommendations and experiencing Trini's (see above) earlier that day.

WHEATFIELDS 1224 South 103rd St.

If you like crepes as much as I do, go to WheatFields! Breakfast food is my favorite. Note: It is a bit pricey (our meal was $30). I wanted to get eggs and bacon too but didn't want to spend THAT much on one meal. Plus, I ordered five crepes only to find out that each one is actually two wrapped up together, ...so now you know.

VOODOO TACO 5402 North 90th St.

Get the queso! OMG. I think this was the best queso I have ever had. Small menu, limited seating but I would go back in a heartbeat. There are two bathrooms - one says TACOS on the door and the other says BURRITOS. We had a fun discussion about that...

As for shopping, we walked through Urban Outfitters (at age 30 I think we are officially too old for that store), Village Pointe shopping center (good but comparable to what we have in Des Moines) and the Nebraska Crossing Outlets (where Voodoo Taco is). If you're feeling lucky, go to the Converse outlet and check out the adult clearance shoes. I found a pair of black high tops in my size that are "B" grade, meaning there is something very minor wrong (cosmetic) with them, for half price!

Peace out, Omaha! We will be back.
