Our Weekend Getaway to Kansas City
We survived our first night away from Rooney! And it was wonderful. Here's a little recap...
We got up at 6:00 am on Saturday, surprised to find that Roo was still sleeping. We got ready and then she woke up right before we left at 7:00, so I fed her a bottle and we said goodbye. She was so excited to see grandma, so it was an easy goodbye.
I drove us all the way down to Leawood, Kan., Starbucks in hand. We listened to Christmas music and talked a lot about the vision of this little blog (hint: we both want to keep it going, and will be revamping the About page soon!).
First stop: Madewell. I tried on clothes for an hour and Eric patiently ;) waited for me and helped me choose.
I got this dress and these pants, and will be ordering this shirt soon, because it is perfect. Also, how cute is this decorating idea? Chalk in mason jars? Yes, please.
I had planned lunch for us at Blanc Burgers + Bottles. Our stomachs were growling and it totally hit the spot. We will definitely be back!
The Gouda cheese fries are a must.
Stomachs full, it was time to hit the shops! Here's the largest box of Nerds ever, in Urban Outfitters.
I don't have too many photos of shopping. We were on a mission to get through our shopping list! We did OK. You know when you have a big shopping trip planned and get your hopes up of all the things you'll get and then it doesn't really work out that way? And you are exhausted? Yeah, that. Oh well!
I started to miss Roo around 4:00 pm, as we left the last store and my mind was no longer preoccupied. I called Eric's mom to see if everything was going well, which of course it was.
We left the plaza to check in at The Westin, and had a great view of Union Station from our room, all lit up and decorated for Christmas!
The weather was unreal for December, so we decided to walk to the Power & Light District (1 mile each way) for dinner at Gordon Biersch and to see more of the city.
On the walk home we played a game where we each got to pick a topic and then the other person had to talk about that topic for 30 seconds. We only got through two topics in 20 minutes :)
We were in bed by 9:30 pm and slept for 10 uninterrupted hours. It was fantastic! On Sunday we woke up to a foggy, but beautiful, day.
We took our time getting ready and then went to The Farmhouse for breakfast. It's a farm-to-table restaurant in the Kansas City River Market. You can definitely taste the freshness!
Eric said it was the best breakfast he has ever had. The perfect end to our getaway.
Four hours later we pulled into our driveway, and Roo was at the door waiting for us with a confused look on her face :) It took her a while to realize what was going on. We caught up (I swear her hair in the back grew an inch while we were gone!), gave her a bath and then it was about time for bed! I definitely need to catch up on my snuggles this week.
Thanks to everyone for the tips and eatery recommendations, and to grandma and our nephew Kaleb for babysitting. I'm breathing a sigh of relief that this "milestone" has come and gone, and we're feeling renewed.
We're already planning our next trip in March for Eric's birthday! It will be a two-night excursion this time so we can spread out the shopping and also see a movie. See you soon, Minneapolis!
