What's in My Lunch Bag / 02

I found it a little shocking to look back at our sack lunch ideas from just a year and a half ago. I was pregnant at the time, and thought I was eating pretty healthy. Well, I'm happy to say that I don't eat any of those (processed) foods things anymore! The only things from that list I still eat on a normal basis are salad, fruit and raisins. So, this post is long overdue. One other thing hasn't changed: we still pack our lunches for work every day except Friday, when we enjoy a meal out together. It's how we balance our need for financial stability, healthy food choices, a mini date during the week (when Roo is at day care), and our love for restaurant meals.

Here's a revised list of things we keep on hand to bring to work for lunches and snacks. I don't like to spend a lot of time packing my lunch in the morning, so even though I don't want to eat processed food, the grab-n-go prepackaged method still works best for me.

  • Grass-fed beef sticks from Wallace Farms
  • Baby carrots & ranch veggie dip
  • Wholly Guacamole 100-calorie packs & organic tortilla chips
  • Organic flame raisins
  • Caesar salad without the dressing
  • Organic strawberries or raspberries
  • Bananas
  • Spinach salad with deli turkey and dried blueberries, cranberries and goji berries (Eric)

This is what we live on! I bring 3-5 of these with me to work and munch on them throughout the afternoon. I'm really hoping we don't get sick of these anytime soon, since they are our go-to healthy foods.

I also have the same thing for breakfast every day: celery and SunButter. Yum!

As you can see, I have completely changed my habits and now I don't bring anything with me to work that is processed or sugary treats. I eat mostly vegetables and fruit all day so that I can splurge a little in the evenings. I also only drink water during the day. As a result, I have lost 10 pounds in the past 6 months (that's 10 pounds lower than what I weighed when I got pregnant)! Eric has lost 20 pounds! We feel better than ever.

About the Bag

Do you like my new lunch bag? It's a Thirty-One Thermal Zipper Pouch! I've had my eye on it for a couple months so I was really excited when Melissa Thielen, Thirty-One consultant, reached out to us to sponsor our blog this month. She sent me this bag (c/o) to test out, and it's been really handy. It not like your typical lunch box that is structured and you have to arrange your containers just so. It's big (9x12), flexible, fits all my lunch and breakfast items, and has a cute print (I also like the camo!).

Are you a Thirty-One fan? Stay tuned for a giveaway tomorrow!

P.S. Have you tried SunButter? I love it. Get a $1 off coupon and give it a try!
